As Chief Executive Officer of MSIG Singapore, Michael is responsible for the operations and performance of the company, with a key focus on strategies for its future success in a changing market place.
Up to March 2015, Michael was an Executive Vice President of MSIG Holdings (Asia) and has been with the Group for over 40 years working in New Zealand, Bermuda, London and across many Asian countries.
Using his broad experience, Michael has led MSIG Singapore into developing further as a market leader. His business mantra is simple yet powerful: “Through great teamwork we can achieve almost anything. Do business in a business-like way and get enjoyment from the results”.
Michael’s leadership extends outside the office. He is actively involved in Rotary and various chambers of commerce, and in charities devoted to nurturing life skills of the needy youth.
Michael was educated to university entrance level in New Zealand. He also holds insurance qualifications by examination to Senior Associate level, and has participated in management courses at Henley College in the UK and INSEAD in France.
Fukuchi-san serves as the Managing Director at MSIG Singapore and is responsible for achieving its key business objectives and grow shareholder value through improved strategic planning and operational effectiveness. In particular, Fukuchi-san provides senior leadership in growing the Japanese business in Singapore.
Prior to his current appointment, Fukuchi-san was the Director of MSIG Holdings (Americas), Inc., the regional holding company headquartered in New York, USA. There, he was responsible for planning and oversight of the USA, Canada, Central and South America business.
Fukuchi-san is a seasoned insurance professional with over 29 years of experience, having worked in Japan, USA and Singapore. In 1989, he graduated from Keio University, one of the top universities in Japan, majoring Economics and began his career at Sumitomo Marine and Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. He enjoyed a progressive career within the Group and rose the ranks to become Manager of Sumitomo Marine’s Singapore branch in 1998. Having completed his responsibility for the business integration into Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance in Singapore, he returned to Japan as Deputy Manager of MSI’s Nagoya Commercial Production Department. By 2009, Fukuchi-san became the Vice President of Mitsui Sumitomo Marine Management, a management company for MSI’s affiliated insurance companies in the United States and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2015.
Fukuchi-san holds a MBA from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in the Netherlands. He is currently Vice President of The Japanese Association Singapore, and Operating Committee member of The Japanese School in Singapore. He is a weekend foodie and enjoys trying out different local food.
As Executive Director and Deputy CEO of MSIG Singapore, Tar Seng is responsible for business development, sales and marketing of all distributions and business units within the company. He also plans and spearheads key strategies to grow MSIG’s portfolio and maintain its leadership position as the leading general insurer in Singapore.
Professionally trained as a civil engineer, Tar Seng is also Chairman of the SG50 Insurance Golf Organising Committee, which has raised some S$800,000 for seven charitable organisations. In addition, he is a member of various committees and workgroups in the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA).
Under Tar Seng’s leadership, MSIG Singapore garnered several accolades to date, including the Overall Best Insurer by Singapore Insurance Brokers Association (2002, 2006 & 2008; 1st Runner-up in 2004). Tar Seng was also instrumental in pioneering MSIG’s talent management strategy to acquire, attract and retain employees.
Married with two children, Tar Seng holds a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Malaya.
Pek Hong oversees the functions of Legal & Compliance at MSIG Singapore. Prior to MSIG, she spent 16 years in private legal practice, the last 6 years of which were also spent in Malaysia. She was called to the Singapore Bar in 1986 and the Malaysian Bar in 1996.
At MSIG, Pek Hong ensures that the business is run in compliance with the regulatory and statutory requirements, and is aligned with the company policies. Her role extends beyond, as the Information Security Officer, Data Protection Officer and Internal Control Programme (ICP) Manager for the company. She works closely with her colleagues and service providers to ensure security measures are taken to protect the company’s and customers’ information, advises on Information Security and Personal Data Protection Act matters as well as conduct staff training in this niche area. She is also the Board Coordinator for MSIG’s Board of Directors and Liaison Officer with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
Pek Hong is passionate about building a culture of strong ethics and believes an insurer that consistently conducts themselves well, will earn the trust and confidence of its customers.
Raised in Batu Gajah and receiving her college education in Ipoh, she holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Malaya. In 1985, she won the Book Prize Winner for Labour Law. She is a happy mother of 3 and enjoys gardening as a hobby.
With 16 years of experience under her belt, Sharon has held several senior appointments and now oversees Human Resources, Learning & Development, Business IT, and Business and Digital Transformation at MSIG Singapore. She also spent eight years in the company's Regional Office driving strategy and initiatives in Service and Business Excellence areas.
The people-oriented leader is focused on driving transformations to continually improve efficiencies for the business and experiences for employees, customers and business partners.
Sharon was credited for setting up MSIG's first centralised Customer Centre. She led the ISO 9001:2000 certification for MSIG Singapore, established Customer Satisfaction measurements and pioneered the company's Customer Journey Mapping initiative across the region. Her most recent project was to oversee MSIG's IT transformation.
Prior to MSIG, Sharon spent five years in DBS Bank, where she set up and ran the centralised services team that supports back office operations. She also worked in the Contact Centre and Cheque Clearing operations.
Overseeing MSIG's CSR programme, Sharon spearheaded volunteerism across the organisation by giving each staff up to 2 days each year to participate in CSR activities. Outside the office, the salsa dancer collects vintage tableware and volunteers at the Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA).
Sharon holds an Honours degree in Arts and Social Sciences from the National University of Singapore.
Steven is responsible for the development and growth of the consumer segment business. At MSIG, he was instrumental in transforming the bancassurance distribution and establishing MSIG as one of the market leaders in personal insurance.
In addition to bancassurance distribution, Steven is responsible for defining and implementing MSIG's digital distribution strategy. He is a proponent of MSIG’s digitisation efforts in a bid to deliver innovative solutions for customers. He champions improvements in customers' journey through digital channels and one of his key focus areas is to deliver simpler, smarter and seamless solutions for customers' protection needs. He also provides leadership to Marketing, Customer Service and Branding & Corporate Communications teams to improve customers' overall engagement and experience with MSIG.
Steven has over 25 years of general insurance experience, having worked in various roles previously including business development, insurance broking, marketing, underwriting and operations. Married with two children, Steven is a Chartered Insurer with The Chartered Insurance Institute (UK), and holds a Bachelor of Business Degree in Banking & Insurance from Nanyang Technological University.
As Senior Vice President for Technical Services, Jeremy is responsible for managing close to 300 staff in Underwriting, Reinsurance, Policy Processing and Claims departments. He joined MSIG Singapore in 2013 and counts over 20 years of experience in the general insurance industry.
Prior to joining MSIG Singapore, Jeremy headed the Business Services division in MSIG Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited covering Underwriting, Reinsurance, Claims and Legal Services. Between 2004 and 2010, he was the regional actuary for MSIG Holdings (Asia) Pte Ltd and was the approved actuary for MSIG operations in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
Jeremy believes MSIG can become an employer of choice if employees work closely with one another, continue to develop new skills and enjoy their jobs. “When they enjoy what they do, we can be assured they will delight our customers,” he adds.
Jeremy is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and has an Executive MBA from Kellogg-HKUST. Outside MSIG, Jeremy volunteers for two different school committees – one in a School Advisory Committee of a local primary school and the other as an executive committee member of the alumni club of another local school.
Adroit with numbers, Sok Chng manages the financial resources of the company to achieve business objectives in areas such as cash management, investments, taxation and other financial operations.
She also supports the CEO and senior management in strategic planning by providing timely financial information and analysis. In addition, she is tasked with ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and is involved in the Actuarial Reserving and MAS Stress testing exercise.
Her team also provides a variety of services to other departments, such as supporting business development and underwriting teams on new sales initiatives and credit control measures.
A former chief accountant at a hotel, Sok Chng believes that business strategies must evolve with changing circumstances. She holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from the National University of Singapore.
