A Career Risk That Paid Off

Piyaporn-Saraboon

A hunger for knowledge prompted Piyaporn Saraboon to make the switch from chemical engineering to the dynamic insurance industry. Also known as Piya, the former chemical engineer came across an opening for risk surveyor at MSIG Thailand, went for the job and the rest is history.

Not one to be easily contented, Piya requested for a transfer to MSIG Singapore after 5 years at MSIG Thailand. The first 3 months in Singapore were challenging as she had to improve her English and adapt to the local culture and way of working. But thanks to her supportive colleagues, she is relishing the new challenges she faces daily. “Singapore is a great country to work in. My colleagues are helpful and we support each other,” she says.

Her daily duties include conducting risk assessment checks at clients’ premises, interviewing clients and gathering other necessary information required for the underwriting department. After evaluating the risk, she sends a report to the relevant business units to enable them to quote and underwrite the risk and, terms and conditions.

Apart from meeting clients and the exposure to various industries, Piya enjoys the constant learning on the job. “It’s not just about the process,” she says. “I get to understand the technology our clients use. Being able to learn something new every day is why I joined MSIG Singapore and so far, I’m really enjoying it.”
