A friend’s referral led Jean Tan to work at MSIG – and she hasn’t looked back since.
“I love working with general insurance as there is more variety,” she says. “There are many product lines, and I particularly enjoy product development, which involves conducting market research to create new products.”
In addition to providing technical underwriting support to various business units, she monitors MSIG’s product lines, and designs guidelines for other business units to follow. She is also actively involved in other projects led by the underwriting department, such as the 6-month Usage-Based Motor Insurance pilot project launched in 2016, which drew over 100 participants and garnered positive feedback.
But it’s not all work and no play for Jean. Since joining the company 2 years ago, she has participated in various activities organised by Star Tanoshii, the staff welfare club. She notes that her colleagues take the effort to help each other out. “People are very nice here – and it’s the little things that make a difference,” she says.
In summing up her experience at MSIG, she says: “We’re the insurer with a heart and that’s important because we’re selling a promise on a piece of paper. And we need to deliver on that promise, which I believe is our biggest strength.”
